The importance of stability in children’s lives

We all want to provide our children with the best start in life, and creating stable foundations allow children to feel safe and secure.

However, for some children in the care system, this can be difficult to sustain.

Recently, a startling analysis by a coalition of children’s charities revealed that children in care throughout England are moving placements a thousand times each week. This comes from figures showing that placements changed over 220,000 times between 2018 and 2021.

To act on this, on 22 June, over 100 young people who have been in the care system urged MPs to reform the care system, as part of ‘It’s Our Care Day of Action’.

This movement follows the findings of The Independent Review of Children’s Social Care, which was discussed in our previous blog.

What is the impact of changing placements?

Constantly changing placements can result in children struggling to form healthy attachments with people, which can have a negative impact on them in later life.

According to the analysis, 64 per cent of the moves in 2021 were due to concerns of abuse or neglect. For this reason, it is so important for placements to be thoroughly checked before a child is placed in the environment.

How can we help?

At Almond Care Children’s Services, we recognise the importance of putting children’s safety first, whilst giving them the best quality care and always making them feel at home.

We believe in nurturing every young person so that they can flourish as they get older, which is why we offer a complete care package for children all the way from the age of eight to eighteen.
