Brain Injury Care Provider

Locked-in syndrome

A key feature of Almond Care’s complex care services in the home in the UK is our proactive approach to understanding each client’s needs and preferences.

In working with clients with locked-in syndrome, in which communication can be challenging, we learn as much as possible from the client as well as drawing on the knowledge of family, friends, medical professionals and other people who know them well.

This approach helps enables us to create a care plan tailored to the client’s needs and designed to provide optimum well-being and quality of life.

Our understanding of clients with locked-in syndrome also enables us to select the right carers to deliver their day-to-day care, which may include ventilation support, tracheostomy care and nutrition support, such as nasogastric and PEG feeding.

We appoint trained and qualified carers experienced in working with people with locked-in syndrome. All carers receive client-specific training relating to the client’s personality, their symptoms and the severity of these and our understanding of the client helps us to identify innovative ways for clients with locked-in syndrome to communicate and interact with others, which contributes to their emotional health and overall well-being.
