Brain Injury Care Provider

I’ve recently been diagnosed with multiple system atrophy (MSA) – what support do I need?

Multiple system atrophy (MSA) requires one-to-one care and support to ensure you received the right level of care once you have received your diagnosis.

The shock of a diagnosis can create a big emotional toll, so you need accurate simple to follow guidance to identify the best route for you.

Getting a better understanding of the challenges you will face is the first step to ensuring you get the support you need.

What is multiple system atrophy?

MSA causes gradual damage to your brain’s nerve cells, with symptoms usually starting between 50-60 years of age.

But they can begin, from as young as 30, so it’s important you know what to look for.

The symptoms are like Parkinson’s disease, including:

  • Muscle-control problems
  • Bladder problems
  • Low blood pressure when standing up
  • Balance, speech, and co-ordination problems

Can I treat MSA?

Sadly, there is no cure for MSA, nor a way to slow its progression, but we can aid you and make your life as comfortable as possible.

Your symptoms can be managed so you maintain your independence, which is the most important thing.
